to read Not Afraid of the Fall - Trials and Tribulations of Transportation. If you ever plan on taking a backpacking trip and traveling to remote areas of the world, be prepared to take various modes of transportation. Sure there were luxurious flights with personal movie screens, or trains with reclining seats and air conditioning. But for each one of those journeys, we had to endure trips on ant-infested busses with no air conditioning or these long-tail boats above. To board these boats, we had to wade out into waist-deep water with our backpacks over our heads. One slip and our laptops, and other electronics were ruined. The boats were tough but that wasn’t the worst of it. We crashed multiple mopeds, had near-death ferry experiences, shared boats with fleeing refugees, got lost in Austria with a German woman in a Romanian rental car, and spent 10 hours on Polish busses where we couldn't communicate with anyone onboard. Despite these trials and tribulations, these modes of transportation brought us to some true gems of our earth at unbelievably cheap prices.
